Liane,

the easiest would be if you create an own account in the puzzle wiki. I've written above, in answer to Hoverdia, how to do this. After that, you can enter your changes directly into the wiki. Are you familar with the wiki edit language? It's the same as the one in the wikipedia.

New information from India! It seems that everything is OK.

Greetings,
Gyorgy

************

Dear All,

I would like to reconfirm that the 3rd World Sudoku Championship will be held 14-17 April 2008, at Holiday Inn Resort Goa, India.

The draft schedule is as follows:

MON 14 APRIL:
Arrival all day
Free optional programme / excursion
19.30 Welcome dinner

TUE 15 APRIL:
Competition

WED 16 APRIL:
Competition / Finals

THU 17 APRIL:
Departure all day
Free optional programme / excursion

The optional programme / excursion is meant to give you an opportunity to make use of the time between your arrival / departure in Goa and the official start / end of the championship to experience some of Goa and its culture.

============================================

Travel information:

Airport transport to and from venue will be provided free on arrival and departure day.

Goa is served by DABOLIM International Airport (GOI). This airport is mainly used for international charter and domestic flights. You may therefore not be able to book a direct flight straight into Goa. Closest international airport is MUMBAI (BOM), from where connecting flights are available to Goa (GOI). Domestic flights to Goa are also available from all international airports in India, such as DELHI (DEL), BANGALORE (BLR) or CHENNAI (MAA).

Recommended port of arrival in India would be MUMBAI, though I would suggest you choose your port of arrival in India according to availability, fare or schedule of your international flight into India.

You should be able to book any domestic leg together with your international flight. At least three domestic airlines (such as Jet Airways, Air India / Indian and Kingfisher) have international code sharing partners.

The following Indian airlines offer international flights to Goa, via either Mumbai or Delhi:

Air India (http://www.airindia.com)
Jet Airways (http://www.jetairways.com)

Jet Airways seems to be offering the best fare from some European countries, especially Belgium.

Finnair (http://www.finnair.com) seems to have good offers from some parts of Europe - that is, if you are prepared to spend a few extra days in India either before or after the championship.

In case you are unable to book directly to Goa, then you could go for the best fare you can get to either MUMBAI, BANGALORE or DELHI. You can then book domestic tickets separately. This might in some cases work out cheaper if you book on one of the low-fare domestic airlines.

The site http://ixigo.com will give you a very good idea of what flights are available at what kind of fare to or between any airports in India. Links are provided to make bookings on the site of respective airlines. (For your information, current approximate exchange rates: 1 EUR = 57 INR, 1 USD = 40 INR)

There are also dedicated booking sites, such as http://viajustgo.com, on which you can book flights or hotels. Other such sites are http://makemytrip.co.in and http://cleartrip.com.

Should you face difficulties in booking domestic legs, please let us know and we will provide assistance to make the necessary arrangements through a travel agent.

============================================

You will receive a separate mail regarding registration and payment of registration fees.

For any queries, please write to info@wsc2008.com. One of our team members will do his or her best to answer your questions.

probably not I am the only one who is looking for a 'cheap' air-tickets to Goa.

I found at finnair.com 496 euros ticket from Helsinki to Bombay (deaprture on 10th April, so two more nights in India). But from Budapest to Helsinki it's another 160 euros... And do not forget about travel from Bombay (Mumbai) to Goa, which is around 70 euros...
Travel with Air France from Budapest to Bombay 660 euros (and can departure only on 12 April).

Do you know any better idea?

Greetings,

Hi Berni,

I got this information from the WPF:
The dates for the third World Sudoku Championship (WSC), to be held in
India, have now been finalized. The WSC will be held in Goa, 14-17 April
2008. The concise schedule is as follows:

MON 14 April: arrival all day, optional excursion, welcome dinner + Q&A
TUE 15 April: competition all day
WED 16 April: competition, play-offs, press conference, farewell party
THU 17 April: departure all day, optional excursion

For the team competition / ranking, a national team will consist of
three competitors. Each country can delegate a fourth competitor for the
individual competition. The limited number of competitors in the team
competition is meant to make it easier for all participating countries
to be present with a complete team in Goa.

Accommodation will be on twin-sharing basis as usual. Single rooms will
be available at extra charge.

My last e-mail from the main organizer:
Quite a few member countries have now responded to my request for information about their participation in the 3rd World Sudoku Championship in Goa next April.

We are very pleased that so far the following member countries have confirmed that they will delegate three or more competitors:

Bangladesh
Belgium
China
Czech Republic
France
Germany
Hungary
India
Italy
Korea
Netherlands
Philippines
Slovakia
Thailand
United Kingdom
United States

The following member countries have indicated that it is very likely that they will be present with three or more competitors:

Bulgaria
Estonia
Turkey

We are yet to hear from several members, so we expect more countries to confirm that they too will participate with a team. Beyond that we expect that most other member countries will be represented by at least one competitor.

We have also established contacts in several non-member countries, some of which have already indicated that they might be taking part with one or more competitors, possibly even a complete team. We will inform about these countries as and when we receive confirmation.
I hereby would like to once again appeal to all WPF members to contribute to the success of the World Sudoku Championship in India by making all efforts necessary to ensure or encourage participation from respective countries.

Best regards,
Gyorgy

Many thanks for these - an absolutely wonderful source of puzzles!

Couple of translation questions:

Zeka May 2006 - page 22 of the magazine - Apartman SuDoku. I appreciate how the Skyscrapers and Sudoku aspects work, but what is the significance of the shaded square?

Page 42 of the same issue - again, what are the significance of the shaded squares in the Kup puzzle.

Many thanks for any help. Keep posting these magazines. There's nothing like them to buy in England, unfortunately
